Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui celebrates their donation of new Computer Center to Hui Malama Learning Center with a blessing and a thumbs up from Mayor Alan Arkawa
The Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui announced their donation of a new computer center to the Hui Malama Learning Center. The FCJC’s donation to Hui Malama is intended to provide Hui Malama students with state of the art technology and assist in creating a quality learning environment. The donation was celebrated and blessed by Reverand Alika of Keewakapu Church. Noted attendees included Mike White, Mayor Alan Arakawa and JoAnn Inamasu from the Governor’s office. Mayor Alan Arakawa expressed his appreciation for the unique way Maui’s non-profits collaborate for a common good.
The Friends expect the new computer center to become an integral part of Hui Malama’s curriculum. At the blessing of the computer center, FCJC Executive Director Paul Tonnessen said, “because of the hard work of the Friends, the students at Hui Malama are excited about their new ‘Friends of the Children’s Justice Center Computer Center.’ They now have a state of the art computer center, a great learning environment and one of the highest computer to student ratios in the State.” The ratio is 1.2 students to each computer at Hui Malama, setting a new standard for the State.
The computer center will help give Hui Malama students a competitive edge where they can learn, grow and become young adults with technical skill that will prepare them for the workforce on here on Maui.
The Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1989 by a non-partisan group of community and business leaders, who were concerned with the social welfare of children who have suffered from abuse and neglect. The mission of the FCJC has three parts; to provide assistance to abused and neglected children in Maui County, promote the prevention of child abuse and neglect and finally to support the Children’s Justice Center of Maui.
