Wailuku resident Kiumars Siah, the owner of AAA Structural Engineering Inspection & Evaluation services is excited about his recent relocation from Oahu to Maui.
He earned his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering in 1980 and after practicing as an engineer he returned to graduate school and obtained his Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on Structural engineering in 1990. Since 2001, he is been visiting Maui numerous times each year.
He says despite his love of all Hawaiian Islands, to him Maui is something special. But he is concerned about the global climate change and the associated adverse impact of global sea levels rise on the island. He says communities across all Hawaiian Islands should recognize that the climate change is real and start planning to address the associated impacts.
As a licensed engineer with expertise on shoreline protection structures, he is pleased to see the proactive role that the County of Maui plays in protecting the Maui shorelines through various County Departments and Commissions.
Siah says the professional engineers working on shoreline protection projects must recognize the impact of their design on the shoreline and work hand in hand with the local authorities to protect our precious shorelines across the Hawaiian Islands. He adds it is important that engineers help the shoreline property owners understand how they can both protect their properties and the natural environment for their offspring.
