Johanna Waters leads Oceanfront Yoga class to benefit Women Helping Women of Maui

When: Thursday, May 10th, 2012, 8:00 to 9:15 am
Where: The Kamaole Nalu Resort, 2450 S. Kihei Rd., Kihei ( Please park on the street or the parking lot across from Kamaole Nalu)

In honor of upcoming Mother's day, A benefit oceanfront yoga class will be held at the above date and location. All proceeds from this class will benefit Women Helping Women of Maui. The mission of WHW is to end domestic violence through advocacy, education and prevention; and to offer safety, support and empowerment to women and children who have been victims of domestic violence.

-There are over 190 reported domestic violence cases in Maui each month.
-The cost of intimate partner violence exceeds $5.8 billion each year, $4.1 billion of which is for direct medical and mental health services. -CDC
-Domestic violence is one of the most chronically under- reported crimes.
-UNICEF predicts that between ¼ and ½ of women world wide have suffered physical abuse by and intimate partner.
-According to the 2010 National Census of Domestic Violence, in a 24 hour period:
70, 648 victims served in one day, 23, 522 hotline calls answered, 30,134 educated in prevention and education trainings, 9,541 unmet requests for services, 82% of programs reported higher demand for services.

“This benefit class is in honor of my mother, and other mothers, who have been victims of domestic violence,” explained Johanna Waters.
All are welcome to join this benefit yoga class. Bring a mat or towel. This is a basic yoga class for a variety of fitness levels offering meditation, breath work and postures simultaneously. The class fee, which will be donated to WHW, is $10.00.

Johanna Waters offers public and private yoga classes and therapeutic massage. She is licensed and a nationally certified massage therapist.
